12th Tacoma Homicide of 2022: Michael Wayne Jones
Less than 24 hours after the murder of Alin Valencia-Miranda, Tacoma had it’s twelfth homicide when 48-year-old Michael Wayne Jones was shot in the 4800 block of East Portland Ave. I would love to tell you exactly what led up to the shooting and who is responsible, but unfortunately, over a year and a half after Michael’s murder few details have been revealed and no suspects have been arrested.
Michael was a father and a grandfather. He was generous to a fault with the people he was close to according to people who knew him. At the time of Michael’s death violent crime in Tacoma had risen over 62% from the previous year.
There are two things that make writing about homicides difficult. One is that the more violent crime there is, the less media coverage individual homicides get. The other is that if the person has a common name, it tends to be difficult to separate the victim from other people with the same name.
I do my best to focus on homicide victims and tell you about them, but sometimes I have to rely on family members and friends who might want to share thoughts and memories of their loved one. If you knew Michael Wayne Jones, of Spanaway and want to share thoughts, memories, or photos of him, please comment below or click here to email me.
