17th Tacoma Homicide: Cody Kuzior
It is safe to say that 41-year-old Cody Kuzior had some problems. Back in 2020 Cody’s brother had come by Cody’s house in the 9400 block of East D Street with some friends. Cody answered the door with a gun pointed at his brother’s chest.
Cody filed multiple restraining orders, all of which were dismissed, all alleging trespassing and theft.
In the weeks leading up to his death Cody put razor wire and bright yellow caution tape around his property. There were ten calls to Cody’s house in the five days before his death. Most of them for reports of gunfire. On at least two occasions bullets hit occupied neighbor’s houses.
On August 5, 2023 police arrived at the house Cody had lived in since 2010. They tried to get Cody to drop his gun and come out peacefully, but he refused to cooperate. When he fired at the officers, they returned fire killing him. Cody Kuzior is the seventeenth Tacoma homicide of 2023 and the first this year committed by law enforcement.
I was unable to find much about Cody online. This isn’t surprising from a guy who had increasingly paranoid behavior before his death. The combination of mental illness and easy access to guns is never a good one.
It’s unfortunate that Cody could not get the help he so clearly needed.
