25th Tacoma Homicide of 2023: Victor McVea III
Halloween morning 2023 just after 6:00am police responded to a call about an unresponsive man in the 1900 block of Milwaukee Way by the waterfront. The man they found was 40-year-old Victor McVea III. He had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene by fire crews after they arrived. Victor is the twenty-fifth Tacoma homicide of 2023.
This is one of those Tacoma homicides that happened with barely a mention of it. It’s never been solved. The News Tribune has mentioned it exactly twice. Once right after it happened in an article less than 100 words long and at the end of the year as one of the unsolved homicides of 2023.
Similarly Victor himself didn’t leave much of a digital footprint. I found some court documents that list a Victor McVea, but I can’t confirm they are about him and not his father or someone else with the same name. Those court documents don’t reveal much about his life anyway.
Of course for those who knew Victor, his loss is something that no article can fully capture. They won’t hear his laugh again. He leaves a hole in their lives that will never be filled, but will be something they slowly get used to. And somewhere out there is the person responsible for their loss.
