Just after 8:30pm on July 23, 2022 42-year-old Desiree Carlisle was in a car with two other people in the parking lot of a motel in the 8800 block of South Hosmer when surveillance cameras caught someone in a stolen Honda drive around the car Desiree was in and fire gunshots into it. One bullet hit the back window. Another hit Desiree in the head. She was dead before first responders could arrive becoming the 26th Tacoma homicide of 2022.
This is the fourth homicide in eight months on Hosmer. To say Hosmer is the most dangerous street in Tacoma is an understatement. And unfortunately, as with almost all crimes that happen in high crime areas, there isn’t a lot of information about what happened or who the victim was.
Two days after the shooting, Tacoma police found the stolen car and the 20-year-old driving it. After a brief chase in which the suspect crashed into a parked car, he was arrested and charged with Desiree’s murder and a lot of other crimes. He has been sentenced to fifty years in prison for her murder.
I was unable to discover much information about Desiree. She didn’t seem to have a social media presence I could find. Some people live their whole lives away from the Internet, but their loss is still felt online and off.
A friend wrote in sharing photos of her back when the friend was still in touch. She said she was a wonderful mother and friend.

Never forgotten a daughter a mother and a friend
she was my best friend for 20 years she practically raised my kids, she is the most loving, caring mother, and she cleans up so well, I used to have her come and remodel and she was like magic i swear she is good at everything a jack of all trades! She loved my son too Marcel Bradley-Zayas who just died July 14th 2024 from fentanyl he was only 21. I can't believe they are gone and I love and will always think about them I love you Dez! You had a right to see your son and I am sorry you never got a chance to, I know you love your kids more than anything in the world....
