Hey, everyone.
I have a LOT planned for the next couple of years. And a lot of it depends on what level of funding we receive from paying subscribers, but no matter what, there are at least two features that are going to continue.
The first is that every Monday I’ll be writing about a Tacoma homicide. I’ve been writing about Tacoma homicides since 2006. At the beginning of this year in the wake of the increased homicide rate, I started writing about a homicide every Monday. Even if no one gets killed for the rest of the year, I won’t get caught up until sometime next year.
The other is an idea that’s been gestating in my head for a few weeks now. I’ve been spending a lot of time going through old local newspapers. And while I’m getting a lot of research completed, I’m also finding strange, interesting, or amusing things that have nothing to do with the topic of my research but are nonetheless worth sharing with others.
And so Wayback Wednesdays will consist of me posting an old newspaper article and making whatever comments I feel necessary about the article.
I’ve included an example below.
Below is the end of the Top of the Ocean. It was a restaurant shaped like a ship on Tacoma’s Ruston Way waterfront. It burned one April morning in 1977 when a 27-unemployed man was paid by local organized crime interests to burn it down.
Read all about it.

My senior prom was held there, shortly before the fire. All I remember was the band played Johnny B Goode with 3 encores
